machinima: how to guides could be changed for ever :-)

We are currently starting to write lots of how to guides (text based, and screen casts) – all very standard. Also, a little difficult to motivate myself to write another set. So, I’m thinking we could change the approach slightly … based on a really interesting presentation at UCS on Machinima. A topic I know little about, but was interested as a form of digital story telling (part of assessed work), and put a little something different in our QR Codes.

As the session went on the more I thought about using a tool like Voovees.com to generate 3D animations versions of our how to guides, and case studies. For instance, a case study is a discussion based on a pre-set questions. The model would be, one of the team collect the case study (text version), through talking to the member of staff. Then we, the e-learning team make a short machinima, which is uploaded to YouTube and pulled into our blog.

As an aside, the story’s demo’d were fab … a site to bookmark is http://machiniplex.net – a film to watch is http://machiniplex.net/?id=22 … great for using as a means of assessment.
